The Blackberry Bold 9700 is the predecessor of the current BlackBerry Bold 9780, which you may want to check out before ordering this older model. The original review for this phone was written early in 2010, when the 9700 was the latest and greatest in the Bold range and the most popular selling handset in the UK, so when the review says “newer” it is relates to the market as it was in early 2010. Things have moved on since then, but this handset remains a solid piece of kit, and as it reaches end of life may allow you to pick up a bargain, so… the BB 9700:
The BlackBerry Bold 9700 is the newer edition of the Blackberry Bold 9000, it weighs less, it looks sleeker and has a much better camera in terms of mega pixels. The Blackberry Bold 9700, like the 9000 also features a built in GPS system which works with the Blackberry Maps software. The Blackberry Bold 9700 also has an excellent security system which users have highlighted as one of the most important features of a Blackberry, it has to be safe and secure. The Bold 9700 has password protection and sleep lock features to keep your all important details safe.
Features of the Blackberry Bold 9700
  • The Blackberry Bold 9700 weighs only 122 grams, making it 11 grams lighter than its earlier model the Blackberry Bold 9000.
  • The battery life is also much extended with the stand by battery life being 408 hours and the active talk time battery life being 6 hours.
  • As with all Blackberry models the Blackberry Bold 9700 has messaging capability. SMS, MMS, instant Messaging and email.
  • Sleek black stylish design.
  • QUERTY keyboard for quick and easy typing.
  • Navigation is via a trackball set in the middle of the Blackberry, below the screen
  • Wide screen and navigation pad but the Blackberry Bold 9700 still has a slim frame.
Good Points of the Blackberry Bold 9700
  • Clear Screen. The screen is very clear which means the picture quality has perfect quality.
  • Expandable Memory. The Blackberry Bold 9700 has an internal memory of 256MB but can support an external SD card of up to 8GB
  • Connectivity. The Blackberry Bold 9700 has 3G technology which means it connects to the internet really quickly. The Wi-Fi technology of course makes this all possible so combined the 3G and Wi-Fi make for quick and easy internet surfing a variety of Wi-Fi hot spots.
  • Multimedia. The Blackberry Bold 9700 had a really wide range of multimedia applications including a music player, video recording and playback, picture albums and a camera.
  • Camera. The inbuilt digital camera featured in the Blackberry Bold 9700 is 3.2MP, a marked improvement on the MP number of the Blackberry Bold 9000.
  • Security. Security and screen lock functions.
  • Rubberised Keys. All the side keys (volume, lock etc) are rubberised for extra grip. Most users like this but some have reported problems (see bad points)
Bad Points of the Blackberry Bold 9700
  • Sticky keys. Users have reported that the tiny size of the QUERTY keyboard keys means that the keys often stick and sometimes fall off and then are very hard to replace. This is a problem reported throughout the Blackberry range and not just something that lies solely with the Blackberry Bold 9700.
  • Rubberised Keys. All the side keys on the Blackberry Bold 9700 are rubberised and some users have reported that this causes problems gripping. However some users have suggested that this is a plus point of the Blackberry Bold 9700.
